Many people have asked how we have been able to sustain a platform dedicated to exposing disputed and encumbered properties while providing information to the public free of charge. The answer goes beyond strategy, funding or professional expertise.
ENCUMBEREDPROPERTIES.COM was born out of a vision and a conviction that innocent Nigerians deserve protection from fraudulent property transactions. It emerged at a time when real estate law was not even my primary area of interest.
As a law student, Land Law was one of my least favorite courses. I had little enthusiasm for the subject and never imagined that property law would eventually become a major part of my professional life. However, once the vision for real estate fraud prevention became clear, there was a need to start afresh.
BUILDING EXPERTISE FOR A GREATER MISSION
Exposing real estate fraud requires more than passion. It requires knowledge, competence and a deep understanding of property law and land administration.
To effectively carry out this mission, I committed myself to extensive study and professional development. This involved attending seminars, researching property law, acquiring specialized materials and pursuing further academic training in land administration and property law.
As a police investigator and prosecutor, I have also spent years focusing on real estate-related crimes and fraud investigations. These experiences have provided valuable insight into the methods commonly used by fraudsters and the vulnerabilities that often expose investors to unnecessary risks. The goal has always been to build the expertise necessary to educate the public and prevent avoidable losses.
DIVINE PROVISIONS ALONG THE WAY
One remarkable aspect of this journey has been the consistent support that has appeared at critical moments.
Recently, while purchasing legal materials at the Federal High Court bookstore, I selected several resources, including: FUNDAMENTALS OF PROPERTY LAW PRACTICE IN NIGERIA, a valuable work authored by respected property law practitioners.
Unexpectedly, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Paul Erokoro, whom I had never met before, insisted on paying for all the materials. His generosity was both surprising and deeply appreciated.
Similarly, a Nigerian living in the United Kingdom who had previously suffered losses through real estate fraud reached out after finding our educational content helpful.
